The deal which was announced on Friday will see BSkyB have the rights to five of the six packages of live matches from the 2010-2011 season to the end of 2012-2013, with Irish broadcaster Setanta claiming the sixth and winning the rights to the Saturday night games.

Premier League Rights

The overall value of the six packages, with each containing 23 live games, has increased by £80 million from the 2007-2010 seasons. It is believed that a significant factor of this modest growth was due to the global economic conditions which prevented a higher price being secured.

All 20 Premier League clubs are set to benefit with half of the deals revenue to be shared equally amongst the clubs.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore is pleased with the deal as it has made the English Premier League the most lucrative division in world club football. This has been a major catalyst in drawing many of the world’s elite players such as Cristiano Ronaldo.
