Following suit of many other sporting codes and businesses around Australia, the Victorian racing industry will be donating proceeds from the gate from several meetings this weekend to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

The following meetings are involved in the appeal:

Saturday 14 February

GeelongĀ  - St Patrick’s Cup Day

Woolamai - Woolamai Cup Day

Moonee Valley - Australia Stakes meeting

Sunday 15 February

Moe (Baw Baw Cup meeting)

Over $25 million dollars has been raised since the disaster took place over the weekend which shows that even in difficult financial times, Australians are still willing to help out their fellow countrymen.

Further to donating proceeds from the gate, there will be collectors going around at these meetings asking for further public donations. There will also likely be further fundraising efforts during the ‘Super Saturday’ meeting at Flemington on March 7.

A co-ordinated effort from the Australian Racing Board will see a further $200,000 donated from a number of interstate clubs and racing bodies.

RVL chairman Michael Duffy said that the support was most appreciated in this dire time of need.
