What are the odds of getting struck by lightning?
Based on the USA census data there were 60 recorded fatalities in 2008 & around 560 injuries from lightning strikes. Only around 10% of people who are struck by lightning are killed.

In the USA, there are 300,000,000 people so:
- The chances of being struck by lightning are around 1 in 400,000 in any given year
- The changes of being killed by lightning are around 1 in 4,000,000 in any given year
- The chances of being struck by lightning within your lifetime (assume 80 years) is around 1 in 5,000
Now that you know the odds of getting struck by lightning, what do you do if you’re caught in a thunderstorm to avoid getting struck by lightning?
