Casey Stoner has admitted tonight in a Press Conference that the rest of his MotoGP season could be in doubt because of a continual pain in his wrist.

Last November Stoner had an operation on his wrist to repair damages from an old injury, however he has told press that his movement in the wrist is still highly limited.

Last year’s surgery was supposed to have resolved an ongoing schapoid problem & Stoner is not confident that things will improve by March 1 when testing commences again.

“Three months have gone by and my wrist has little mobility and hurts badly,” Stoner told Motosprint. “I don’t like the way this story is going at all.

“I’ll try not to think about it until the test in Qatar, then we’ll see. If the situation in Qatar hasn’t improved radically, then it means there will be plenty to worry about.

“I just think that three months have gone by and in my opinion the situation isn’t good at all.

“I say that I shouldn’t be in this situation, because the bone has healed, yet it hurts me badly. That’s what I can’t explain.

“It’s been really disappointing finding out that after three months the wrist is a lot worse than I expected.”

Acting captain Brad Haddin commented that the catch by Voges had shifted the momentum of the match in their favour:

“An outstanding catch and the funny thing is I don’t think it was the first time that he had done that this year,” Haddin said.

“It just shows, he captains his state side when Marcus North is away and he has a very good cricketing brain.

“To think on your feet that quickly was an outstanding effort and, as it turned out, it was a massive play like that that we needed to win the match.”

Rafael Nadal the world number 1 was beaten yesterday by Scottish born Andy Murray in the final of the Rotterdam Open.

Score: 6-3, 4-6, 6-0

The number 4 seed Murray said that Nadal’s recurring knee problem had a lot to do with his performance in the second set. Nadal failed to comment on his knee, however he did take a treatment break during the third set.

Murray said:

“I’m happy with the week but not especially with the way that it ended,” said Murray, who also won in Doha in January against Nadal.

“I can’t be disappointed with how I was playing. I knew something was wrong with Rafa as he took about 30kph off of his serve in the second set.

“But he was hitting so hard that it was rushing me. That was part of the reason for all of the breaks.
“I could see him shaking his head. But he’s not the kind of guy who’s going to stop chasing the ball unless there’s a good reason. He said that he sometimes has a knee problem when he plays a lot on hard court.”

Current Tennis Rankings:

Rafael Nadal (Spain)

Roger Federer	( Switzerland)

Novak Djokovic (Serbia & Montenegro)

Andy Murray Great (Britain)

Nikolay Davydenko	(Russia)

Andy Roddick	(USA)

Juan Martin Del Potro	(Argentina)

Gilles Simon	(France)

Fernando Verdasco	(Spain)

David Nalbandian	(Argentina)

Sprinting champion Apache Cat has had a fantastic 12 months building an outstanding record in group 1 events. So why has the racing public and the media gone cold on Apache’s prospects ahead of today’s $400,000 group 1 Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley?

Greg Eurell, Apache’s trainer was certainly unsure as to the reasons for the desertion as he has the utmost confidence in the sprinter. He claimed “One indifferent run, which there were excuses for, and they want to hang him”.

Eurell had plenty to say on the topic and wanted to remind people of Apache’s form: “I think we’ve got short memories when it comes to Apache Cat. Last year when he won the Lightning Stakes it was a pleasant surprise … because we were looking beyond the Lightning to sprint races at 1200 and 1400 metres. He won and his reputation soared. Probably rightfully, but a year on and we’re now taking a dim view of his performance in the Lightning Stakes.”

Winning more than $3.6 million in prize money Apache has excelled in many distances which has made him a truly versatile horse. Today will be a true test of his ability as the 1200-metre weight-for-age event includes champion Weekend Hussler.

Eurell believes a win today will prove to people that Apache is not past his prime and will still be a winner in the future.

We’ve looked at what the odds of getting struck by lightning are, but what’s the best way to avoid it? Since lightning can be a very random event the following should just be used as a guide to reduce the chances of getting struck by lightning or lightning using you as it’s path to earth. Electricity likes to travel, in the case of lightning this is travelling between the air & the earth. It also likes to take the easiest route it can find.

Trees

Standing under a tree is perhaps one of the worse things you can do. Lightning likes to strike tall objects, the electricity will travel through the tree & find you as a conductor, the spikes will then split into two & perhaps kill the person who is standing next to the tree also.

Lightning can jump from the tree & kill very easily

Open Ground

One thing to remember here is that there is no safe place outside in a lightning storm, however if you have no other option you must learn to try & minimise potential danger.

The best technique here is to use is the ‘Lightning Crouch’ in which you crouch down as low as possible (remember how we said lightning goes for tall objects?), & touch the ground with as little of your body as possible (so the lightning doesn’t see you as a good conductor), best method for this is just to crouch down & balance on your toes slightly.

The Lightning Crouch could save your life

If in the unfortunate event that you actually get hit this method will also help protect your vital organs from damage (as it changes the path the lightning takes through your body).

The Car

Believe it or not, the car is one of the safest places to be during a lightning storm, the metal body conducts electricity much better than a human body. Provided that you remove all your shiny objects & put them in the glovebox. If you are touching anything like the steering wheel, gear shaft or anything else metallic the lightning may try to discharge through you after striking the shell of the car, to avoid this do not touch anything else other than the seat & remove all metallic objects such as rings, watches & other jewellery.

At Home

The home can be dangerous during a lightning storm, proabably the thing that conducts electricity the best is Copper. Copper is part of your power points, phone lines & the copper piping that connects utilities to your house. For this reason you should stay clear of any sinks, basins, power points & telephones.

Proceeds from the match will be donated to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal.

AFL players from all clubs will be helping to man 150 phone lines that channel Seven and Telstra Dome have set up to take donations and the players will also be walking through the crowd collecting money.

League chief, Andrew Demetriou said the proceeds would all go to bushfire relief as well as the estimated $250,000 the AFL would save by not traveling to Darwin. In a further show of generosity Telstra Dome and Ticketmaster will be donating their takings from the game.
